Dr. Mozhgan Savabieasfahani:
The only anti-apartheid candidate for Ann Arbor City Council
Dr. Mozhgan Savabieasfahani is the only anti-apartheid candidate for Ann Arbor City Council.
☐ A $20 an hour minimum survival wage for all workers.
☐ Massive reparations. Trillions have been stolen from Black America, and now it's payback time. City Council needs to set an example for the rapid expansion of good jobs, universal health care, education from preschool through university, generational wealth, homeownership, quality affordable housing, sufficient mass transit to eliminate dependency on cars, and an end to police brutality. These measures are needed for the whole population, but with Black Americans first in line, not last.
Let the Washtenaw County Advisory Council on Reparations do its studies, but don't let that delay action by City Council.
☐ Get every child all the way through at least a bachelor's degree and into a good job. We can do this by expanding the Neutral Zone's Future Corps program until that happens, under City supervision.
☐ At least 10% Black enrollment at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. It's over 50 years since the University made that commitment. We ought to compel the University to keep their promise.
☐ My resolution against military aid to Apartheid Israel. My resolution is just 7 words long: "We are against military aid to Israel."
A similar resolution was sent to City Council for approval by the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission back in 2003. Since then, Israel has killed thousands of Palestinian and Lebanese people, and has gotten paid for it with U.S. tax dollars, U.S. arms, and a U.S. blind eye towards Israel's gigantic nuclear weapons arsenal.
I will keep pushing for City Council to adopt my resolution. They can't pretend to be "progressive" while killing Palestinians with your tax dollars. ☐ End the Gelman toxic contamination of Ann Arbor's waters. How much of that stuff are we supposed to drink before City Council starts acting instead of just talking? This 1,4-dioxane contamination has been reported in the Ann Arbor mass media since the 1960's, but City Council still prefers talking to an actual cleanup. City Council has to do the cleanup, not wait for multi-generational litigation to be concluded.
☐ Publicly demand an end to all union-busting laws, both state and federal, including the infamous Taft–Hartley Act. Push for immeditate adoption of Bernie Sanders' Workplace Democracy Plan and get labor union protection into every workplace. Without unions, the world is a dog-eat-dog race to the bottom — in wages, health, and living standards. If you can’t pay the rent while you’re still paying for trillion-dollar wars, then you need a union.
