Thousands march in Dearborn and Ann Arbor for Palestinian rights

"More than 1,000 march in Dearborn as death toll ticks higher in Israeli-Palestinian crisis"


"The streets of Dearborn were flooded with protesters for the second day in a row Sunday, joining demonstrations across the world demanding an end to violence against Palestinians amid the latest deadly attacks in the Israeli-Palestinian crisis. Traffic was at a standstill on Michigan Avenue as nearly two thousand demonstrators marched east toward Schaefer Road, energized from a rally and chanting, 'Free, free Palestine.' "

 "A host of speakers addressed the crowd before the march, including 2018 gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed; Eman Ahmed, principal of Salina Intermediate School in Dearborn’s Southend; Lexi Zeidan, a Palestinian Christian graduate student at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Ross School of Business and Mohammed Furrha, organizer from Sandbox, a Palestinian-led group of local activists, among others.... 

 “...Ann Arbor City Council member Ali Ramlawi (D-Fifth Ward) came to the protest to 'stand in solidarity with my brothers and sisters throughout the world standing for human rights.' Ramlawi said, 'This is one area that City Council has not had the courage to take up yet. They are afraid to take this issue up...' "

" 'Talking to my friends who have relatives in Gaza, they are telling them they have nowhere to hide,' Abufarha said. 'Everything has been bombed. The mosques have been bombed, churches have been bombed, hospitals have been bombed, houses have been bombed, schools have been bombed. 

" 'I am here because I don’t want my tax money to go to bombing innocent civilians. I hope that out voice will be heard, I hope that this will stop and we’re going to keep doing it until something happens.' "
